One of the Most Important Festival on the
Lunar Calendar
But What Made It So Special???

Chinese New Year is one of the most important and biggest festivals in the Chinese culture.  It begines on the first day of the first month.  Throughout this month, there are customs and rituals everybody must follow.

Although I moved to the United States since 2002, I still follow this tradition with my American husband wholehearterly every year.  I always make sure that both of us would do certain things, such as having
haircut before its arrival, and not to do some other stuffs until the end of it.

I break it down to several sub-topics so that it will be easier for you to understand:

1. Lunar New Year Calendar - When does Chinese New Year start and end?

2. Chinese New Year Whole Soceity Tradition - Exploring why Chinese get busy 2 days before the arrival of this big festival.

3. New Year Day by Day Tradition - The most important 6 days of the Chinese New Year have their own names for each day and their unique customs.

4. New Year Do's and Don'ts Tradition -15 more days to go before this BIG festival is over.  What will Chinese do?  What other customs will need to be followed during this period of time?

5.
Food - What kind of food the Chinese have during the Chinese New Year?

6.
Gifts - There are hierachies and seniority when it comes to give and receive Chinese New Year gifts.  I will tell you the proper ways.

7.
Decorations - From drawings, sayings, flowers and paper-cutting art.
